From the Gazette Real Estate
By Paula C. Brooks
Special to the Gazette
The real estate team of Judy and Mitch Milstein is a joke. No, wait, let me rephrase that. They are a couple of comedians. No, no wait. That isn't quite what I meant. You see they really are funny on purpose. The "Super Team of Judy and Mitch Milstein" who work in the Gaithersburg office of Long & Foster Realtors are two of the most energetic, enthusiastic, inventive agents you will ever meet. They both confess to being the "class cut-up" when they were in school. Judy went on to be a professional stand-up comedian both here in metropolitan Washington, DC and in the Southern California area. After numerous times of standing up in front of a hard crowd, Judy finds handling normal situation a breeze. Judy loves people and turns the everyday foibles in life into numerous stories, "I take the sad story and find the humor... (or) life stories and find the twist. Judy met Mitch at a dance here in Maryland, just before she was due to fly back to Los Angeles. Within 10 minutes of meeting him, she announced to her friends that she was going to marry this guy. However, it took a whole year to get around to the actual wedding. Judy and Mitch were married on Halloween, "...because it was the only Saturday Available," not because Judy wanted to be called "The Bride of Milstein." Judy decided to go into real estate after her daughter, Laura was born with "Reactive Airway Disease," a type of asthma. She couldn't work normal hours with Laura's condition and also take care of their son, Michael, who was then two. Judy's father had been a builder-developer back in Youngstown, Ohio, where she grew up, so she understood the business. She worked as a part-time agent in 1987, selling over $500,000 in her first month. Now that their children are older, Michael is 10 and Laura is 8, the Milsteins are charging full steam ahead. Judy is confident that it is just a matter of time before, anywhere. She says she is, "obsessed and possessed" when it comes to real estate. Mitch is a great counterweight to Judy's high level. Mitch is a steady, low key guy from Philadelphia, with a management/sales background in electronic data systems, computers, and specific expertise in "disaster recovery planning" (how to keep a business going if their data center is destroyed). He has always helped Judy with her real estate business and, two years ago, he too went into real estate on a full-time basis This team is unlike anyone or anything else in the business. They will do anything to help their clients; which in the past has included; personally packing and moving their client's furniture, calling every tenant of a building to find a unit for sale, organizing a neighborhood party for a new resident, contacting hard-of-hearing for a noisy location, and working at all hours of the night and day (or even through the night) when needed. Judy says they believe in, "Hard work, the guy upstairs, and family... we are down-to-earth, real people." One of Judy and Mitch's biggest problems is that they get so attached to their clients "... we get emotionally involved, we do everything we can, which goes way beyond real estate," says Judy as Mitch nods in agreement. They have a unique advertising logo which features the two of them as super heroes. The advertising staff and the Gaithersburg Gazette helped them develop the logo through their art department. The Milsteins latched onto the idea and now send out a purple, zig-zag cut, comic strip brochure with themselves as super heroes. The two have fun using their name to rhyme to the sales slogans, such as, "Sell every time with Judy and Mitch Milstein" or "Don't put up a sign without the name Milstein". When Judy isn't doing real estate, she's talking real estate with the neighbors by the pool while the kids swim, or dreaming real estate. Mitch's spare free time is spent breeding tropical fish and coaching his son's baseball team. The Milsteins promise to sell your house and keep you laughing while they are at it, which my not be for too long. They pride themselves on promptly finding a buyer. Just recently, they sold a home so quickly, they didn't even have a chance to put up the "Milstein For Sale Sign".

They have in-depth knowledge of Montgomery County and surrounding areas, and together they make up the "Super Team" at Long & Foster.
